Palermo FC has presented the project for the renovation of the Renzo Barbera Stadium signed by Populous. The new stadium will be a multifunctional, sustainable and open to the city throughout the year. The project provides the creation of new public spaces, hospitality areas and community services. The new stadium will be designed to host international UEFA matches, concerts and cultural events. The Populous project works on a delicate balance between the conservation of existing heritage and the introduction of contemporary elements. The new stadium will be integrated into the city's fabric, surpassing the model of the monolithic stadium used only on match days. The project also includes new generation hospitality spaces, areas dedicated to fans, an expanded food & beverage offer and spaces for events and corporate activities. Central to the project is the theme of inclusivity, with a design that ensures total accessibility for all generations and families. From an environmental point of view, the renovation introduces integrated photovoltaic systems, low-resource technologies and strategies for rainwater recovery, with the aim of reducing the energy impact of the structure. The surrounding public space will also be rethought in a sustainable way, prioritizing pedestrian and cycling mobility, public transport, electric vehicle infrastructure, green areas and permeable surfaces. Next to the stadium, a new structure will be born to become the headquarters of Palermo FC: a building that will host offices, a club museum and spaces dedicated to fans and guests, strengthening the identity relationship between the sports club and the city. For almost a century, the Renzo Barbera has represented a symbolic place in the collective memory of Palermo. The Populous project therefore works on a delicate balance between the conservation of existing heritage and the introduction of contemporary elements, valuing the visual and landscape relationship with the Parco della Favorita and Monte Pellegrino. Silvia Prandelli, Senior Principal of Populous Italy, has stated: 'The new stadium is a clear expression of the club's ambition and its commitment to its fans and the Palermitan citizenship. The project will create a new destination for the city, fully integrated with local transportation infrastructure, serving the community and bringing benefits to future generations.'
