Palermo is waving goodbye to Brunori and Gomes, two players who have been the pillars of the team for years. Both have written important pages in the recent history of the club, if we think that former captain Brunori is second in the all-time scorers' list with 76 goals and that Frenchman Gomes has been a nearly immovable starter for over three years. Now the roads are destined to part. It had emerged in the past months that something had cracked between the players and the technical project. Brunori had played in just eleven occasions (six as a starter) in the first half of the 2025/26 season, then did not play a single minute in December and was sent on a straight loan to Sampdoria at the beginning of the winter market: Inzaghi's 3-4-2-1 formation never found the right spot for him, and his fluctuating performance accelerated his early departure. Gomes, on the other hand, had less and less space due to the extraordinary work of Segre and Ranocchia in midfield: both became indispensable for Inzaghi, penalizing not only the number 6 but also the other reserve midfielders (Blin, Giovane and Vasic); the former Manchester City also paid performances that were not always up to par. Palermo has decided not to renew the contracts of Brunori and Gomes, who are destined to leave Sicily in the coming weeks.
